Hurricane Sandy Scams

In every disaster scammers see an opportunity, and Hurricane Sandy is no exception. I have already seen faked Red Cross e-mails circulating and there will no doubt be more scams coming.

Just a couple of quick tips:

You should only donate directly to charities via their websites and never through links received in email.  If in doubt call the charity directly and verify before giving.

Be particularly cautious about clicking on photos and videos that purport to show storm damage. You do not have to install anything to watch videos or see pictures of the storm.  Anything asking you to do so is likely malware trying to infect your computer.
